I agree with you, Heather. What's clear to me is that corruption is unavoidable as we live out our faith in a world of sin and death and defiance to Christ. Later on in Numbers, it's almost as if the Lord gives us a picture of this in chapter 11. We usually see Israel complaining, but first Israel complains, then the "mixed multitude complains, and then Moses complains!

What I drew from was mainly this: God is merciful, and has provided us with atonement and assurance of salvation, so we don't have to depend upon ourselves...

I'm still contemplating this post.
Even printed it off so I could read it away from the computer. Definitely a difficult passage for me to really grasp, but I appreciate your thoughts on it.

Thanks, Dave.

I appreciate the time you took to check out the blog, man. And yeah, dude, it's one of those things that just makes me cringe a little. Not only do JW's, mistakenly, believe that YHWH is the name of the Father only, so do other heretics like the Black Hebrew Israelite movement(s), so it's absolutely baffling to me that there are Christians who would do the same. Whether this is done out of ignorance or not, it shouldn't be treated lightly.

Thanks, again, for stopping by, man.

What is interesting is that Christianity is the only religion that posits a "Triune" Godhead. I like how you went about pointing out the Old Testament references which people normally take to mean "adonai" when referring to YHWH. But in its context, you are right in making clear what Paul was doing. This is really good work Hiram. Really good.

Hiram

You might consider Num 5:14 as a possible reference/explanation for James 4:4-5, in which case the translation of that difficult passage would be tilted in one direction out of many that are possible.

BTW, considering the way your posts touch on both typology and apologetics, you might take a look at the Amazon page for my book Gospel Mysteries: Typological Coding as Evidence of the Bible's Inspiration. J. D. Walters of Christian Cadre has a review posted there that you might find helpful. If you are interested, please email me and I will forward a complimentary copy of the book for your perusal.
